"Joseph was a leader in the kingdom of Egypt. Among other things, this means that he was in control of the future of his father’s household. Before Jacob, the father of Joseph, had died, Joseph had taken an oath to bury Jacob in the land of Canaan. The Scripture says that when the seventy days of mourning were completed for his father, Joseph went back to Canaan “and there went up with him both chariots and horsemen, and it was a very great gathering.” (GENESIS 50:9) This was a significant time in the history of ancient Israel. They were in the land of Egypt and would remain there for about four hundred years, which was all predicted in the prophecy of Genesis 15:12-13. The family of Israel was beginning to
grow into the nation of Israel. What we learn from this passage is that God can speak to our hearts based on our future, not just for our present time.
