When David found himself rejected by Saul king of Israel, he had to leave Israelite territory for his own safety. David headed to the land of Israel’s enemies: the Philistines. He and his men were allowed to settle there, but when the Philistines went to fight against Israel, they did not trust David to stay loyal. David was benched for fear he would turn his men against the Philistines in the heat of battle. David was twice rejected. David and his men returned to their settlement at Ziklag, but the tragedies were stacking up. They found Ziklag burned, their wives
and children gone. What was God doing? David found himself at what must have been the lowest place emotionally that he had ever been.
