The about-face that the kingdom of Judah experienced after the reign of Hezekiah must have been horrible to see. After Hezekiah’s death, his son King Manasseh systematically reversed all of Hezekiah’s God-honouring ways. He pushed Judah into the most depraved forms of idolatry. The Bible says about Manasseh, “But he did evil in in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel” ( 2 CHRONICLES 33:2). Manasseh’s son Amon was no better. The Bible tells us, “But he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done” (2 CHRONICLES 33:22). After King Amon’s
short reign, his young son Josiah was installed as king, he reigned from 641-609 BC. We aren’t told why, but Josiah was different in his approach. He deeply sought the God of his forefathers; the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His reforms would be a major steppingstone in the history of Judah.
