It is interesting to learn that the priests had certain foods that they were commanded to
eat by God. It’s a detail that is easy to overlook, the dietary laws specific to the priesthood.
God was not giving laws without reason; He created all things and seems to delight in rich
meaning. So, if there was a specific way for the priests to eat the offering, then we can expect
it carries meaning. The entire way that the offerings were prepared for sacrifice actually carries
meaning, and it helps us to understand the ways that sin costs us our lives. In light of the work
of Christ, this is so impactful. Jesus gave His perfect life that we could be forgiven. Sin places
an impossible weight on our souls, but Jesus’ sacrifice carries this weight and restores our souls
to a righteous state. As we study the book of Leviticus, we learn about more than the sacrifices
and their procedures, we learn about Jesus Christ.
