Hezekiah was the 16th king of ancient Judah. His reign was marked by a determined effort to get back to the ways of God. He and his people were living in a treacherous time, and they knew it. During his reign, the larger, northern nation of Israel fell to the Assyrians. Hezekiah was about to be tested unlike any other king of Judah. He knew the Assyrians would come for Judah next. God promised to preserve him, but it would have looked very bleak as the Assyrians took Judean city after Judean city, murdering citizens and destroying the land. Finally, Jerusalem was surrounded by the enemy army. The prophet Isaiah was God’s mouthpiece to King Hezekiah. He promised that God would rescue Jerusalem and turn her enemies back. Now, it was up to Hezekiah to listen and obey, taking rest in the LORD in the face of impossible odds.

Trouble Within Israel; 1 Chronicles 1-5
