Season 2, Episode 9

The book of Numbers takes us with the Israelites wandering through the wilderness. It is titled for the two times that Israel was counted or numbered. A census was first taken at the beginning of their journey at Mt. Sinai, and then a census was taken at the end of their wandering on the plains
of Moab just across the Jordan River from the Promised Land. It was only an eleven day journey from Mt. Sinai to the Promised Land, but for their disobedience Israel ended up spending forty years living nomadically in the wilderness. Today as we begin, we will see the command for Moses to begin counting the people in Numbers 1. Numbers 2 sees Moses explaining to the people of Israel how they are to arrange their camp, and Numbers 3 continues with the numbering of the people. The setting of their tents and the structure of Israel’s camp is very interesting. And it is in this context that God will speak to them for forty years.

Important Offerings; Numbers 14-16
