Numbers 6 covers the interesting Nazirite vow. This was a vow that a person could take if they wanted to separate themselves for a special time of dedication to the LORD. This was a good thing, and the time of separation was marked by distancing yourself from some of the normal things of life; there were both dietary and physical restrictions. Both men and women were permitted to take a Nazirite vow, and this vow was always with an offering. Though a person under a Nazirite vow needed to keep themselves from death, from dead bodies particularly, there was a special provision made for if a close relative lost their life. It is extremely interesting to consider these restrictions and why separating oneself from them for a time was considered a sacrifice and a way to bless God.
