Religious Traditions; Mark 6-8

Religious traditions are interesting to consider. On the one hand they can preserve truth and pass it on generation to generation. On the other hand, they can replace the truth they are trying to preserve! When they do this, they become futile. It is all too easy for us to see people devoted to outward religious traditions, signs, or displays and think that makes them godly,
good, or right. The Bible tells us that we are only right when we are reconciled to God through the forgiveness and work of Jesus Christ. In our reading today, we see Jesus Himself being criticized for not following the religious traditions popular in His day. Jesus exposed these traditions for being at odds with the commands of God. When we try to please God our own way, we end up getting it wrong.
