The event of the transfiguration of Christ is still very captivating. I can’t imagine how amazing it would have been to have been there in person! The event itself brings up many questions. Peter, James, and John focused on asking about Elijah and his presence. Was this what the Scribes
were talking about when they said that Elijah must come before the Messiah? Jesus answered that Elijah had already come to the world; by this He meant not Elijah in the transfiguration but in the person of John the Baptist, who fulfilled the role of Elijah as we see stated in Luke 1:17.
Jesus also told Peter, James, and John that He would be risen from the dead. This also confused the disciples. They had just had Jesus’ Lordship miraculously confirmed and now He was speaking about being risen from the dead. When would this happen, and how, and why? I’m sure these were just some of the questions they wrestled with.
