The Sabbath was a major point of contention between Jesus and the religious leaders of His day. The Sabbath day is the day of rest at the end of the week that was instituted by God in Genesis 2. Genesis 2:1-3 says that God rested on the seventh day and called it blessed. This is interesting because we know that God is almighty, He does not need to rest, we do! He gave us this example of rest and programmed it right into the beginning of creation: Work for six, rest for one. What we see in our reading today is some of the struggles that people had with Jesus: How could He be from God, if He worked on the Sabbath? The Pharisees were religious men
who had dedicated their lives to knowing and teaching the Law of God. They took the Sabbath very seriously. To them it was an abomination that Jesus would heal someone on the Sabbath. By His works and by His words, Jesus challenged them to their core.

Be Fair; Matthew 18-20
Things are very different in heaven than they are on earth. God’s works and ways are much better than our own. As humans, we lean toward pride and arrogance. We can feel entitled to things rather quickly. We see that reflected in the parable of the laborers in the vineyard that Jesus tells in our...

Few Are Chosen; Matthew 21-23
Many are called but few are chosen. Jesus Christ taught us from a parable what heaven was like; He compares it to a royal wedding. The invitation went out to anyone and everyone, but to stay at the wedding feast you had to be wearing appropriate clothing. To not do so was an insult to the king. I...
