Zechariah prophesies the coming day of the LORD, laying out what will happen. The LORD reveals that a cleansing fountain for the house of David will be opened. This seems to me to be speaking of the 1000-year reign of Jesus Christ. Zechariah is seeing the future. From his perspective it would have been the distant future, and from our present perspective, I believe it to be the near future. After a lot of difficulty, Jesus will return and reign as the ultimate member and fulfillment of the house of David. There are several chapters we read in the book of Zechariah on this subject, but in chapter 13, verses 1-6 seem to explain the setup for this time,
and verses 7-9 break out into a poetic expression of it and what has led up to it. Zechariah is an interesting prophet called and equipped to express the emotion of God’s Holy Spirit.
