"David was a good king! But David broke the Law –– he had many sons with many wives. His family ended up becoming a problem that rattled the kingdom of Israel. Absalom, a son of David, killed his half-brother, Amon who raped Absalom's sister, Tamar, also David’s daughter. Why did Absalom do this? Well, David did not do anything about the violation and ignored God’s Word, so Absalom did something about it. God’s law is very specific about how we ought to marry and grow our families. David's troubles multiplied because he adopted the ways of the world instead of following the direction of God. Then, a rebellion ensued. Absalom
attempted a coup that brought death and destruction to the inhabitants of Israel. David’s unwillingness to punish Amon created an open wound among his family and left a deep scar on the golden age of the Israelite monarchy. Sin left its mark. But, there would be One coming, who is in the line of David, fathered by God, who would heal the scar and solve the problem.
