From my years pastoring, I know firsthand the temptation we sometimes feel to copy ministries that are doing well. Sometimes this urge comes from a good place; we see a ministry truly helping people and want to replicate that in our own churches or ministries. Other times this urge comes from bad motivations; we see a ministry or church financially succeeding and want to duplicate that where we are. However, good or bad motivations aside, copying another church or ministry should never be our game plan. Every church, every person has their own calling from God and
their own potential influence. God has each of us do His work in our unique ways. In this way, we can be different and yet still the same. We have the same goal (to build the Kingdom!) but we accomplish it differently. And that is good! In today’s reading, we see that God was working through many different people in the early Church. Let’s not focus on copying one another, but instead follow God where we are, with what we have now.
