The Church is supposed to be different from the world. Our relationship with God makes us unique. The Church is not supposed to be an optimist club, neither is it a way that we can identify ourselves as good people. The Church is the Kingdom of God! We are broken people, redeemed by Christ, being made holy according to God’s goodness and mercy. Paul identifies the Church as God’s; he lets the Christians at Corinth know that they are to be set apart from the culture. It
was not acceptable that the Christians were suing each other; the problem was that Christians were using the power of secular Roman courts against one another and bringing shame on the ions of His people are different. They needed to appeal to God’s authority to settle disputes, not Caesar’s. God had different expectations for His people than what Caesar had outlined. The best thing to do when dealing with conflict with each other is yes, to get our conflict mediated, but more so to learn forgiveness.
