"The book of Daniel is a short but powerful record of God's provision to a society that had lost everything and became captive. The time is about 575 BC, or roughly 580 years before Jesus Christ was born. God’s chosen people are highlighted in this book at a time when Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, besieged Jerusalem and took it captive.
Along with it, some of the children of Israel, some of the king’s descendants, and other young men, like Daniel, who were gifted, handsome, and wise, were taken captive to serve in the king’s palace. Daniel would be trained in the language, religion, art and culture of
Babylon for service to Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel’s book is short and to the point. Historical stories between Daniel, his companions, and the rulers of Babylon frequent its pages. And from chapters 7 to 12, Daniel has visions, some of which land him in a lot of inner turmoil because God reveals the truth about the future of His people Israel.
