As Job looks back to his former happiness, he remembers how he used to be honoured by people, how with his wealth he would help and comfort people in need. It stung bitterly when compared to his present situation. Due to his loss, his position in society and reputation were also gone. The only thing truly left was that he wasn’t dead yet. In this way, Job was like Christ. By being crucified, Jesus lost all His status in the ancient world. He was seen as the lowest of the low, someone to be distained and distanced from. As we read the last part of Job’s commentary
on his life, we see him noting how the lowest achievers of his day now despised him. Clearly, Job was in a dark place. However, like Jesus, this was not the end of Job’s story, God had redemption coming for him.
