"God speaks to families, not just the men, when He communicates His will and ways. As modern people, it seems as though we don’t really understand the depth of how God calls families and establishes His plans through them. The people of Israel were called and identified by their families. In the New Testament times, many Jewish Christians
came to know and follow Jesus Christ as Messiah at the cost of their families; they would be disowned when they were baptized. So the Early Church set up step-families to adopt and help them grow in the LORD and discover God’s ways. Tragically, King Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died with him on Mount Gilboa.
When David heard the news, he did not respond like many had thought he would - he mourned. 2 Samuel 1 records David’s response in hearing the report of Saul’s death. David’s heart is truly remarkable.
