There are very few places in all of history that we can find a plan for complete annihilation of the Jewish people. The book of Esther is that place. This book is about a young Jewish orphan girl named Hadassah who became the queen of Persia. She was raised by her cousin Mordecai who had adopted her as his own daughter. Her name in Hebrew means “myrtle”. She was later given the Persian name Esther meaning “star,” after the goddess of the ancient Persian culture. The story is stunning with impossibility. God worked in amazing ways to orchestrate the miracles that Esther would be able to fulfill at the call of God. As an orphaned Jew who had been living in exile in Persia, she became queen of the most powerful empire in the world, and saved her people Israel from utter destruction through a series of happenstances that shook the world at that time.
