Many of the problems in King David’s life were not from external enemies, they came from within his own family. The major rebellion of his reign, one that saw him abandon his throne for a time came from his son Absalom. But before Absalom rebelled, another of David’s sons Amnon had rebelled in a different way. David had failed to resolve Amnon’s crime; he did not resolve it according to the Law of the LORD, in fact, David does not seem to have acted at all. As a result, Absalom killed Amnon and was then exiled by David to another city. This is an example to us today of how not to deal with our family. We should grow and raise our family prayerfully, dealing with issues as they come up using the Word of God as our guide, rather than just our emotions. In 2 Samuel 14, we read about this on-going conflict between father and son.
