"Baruch came from a notable family and his name means “blessed”. He was the son of Neriah and grandson of Mahseiah, the governor of Jerusalem during the reign of King Josiah (2 CHRON. 34:8, MAASEIAH), and the prophet Jeremiah’s accomplished scribe. Today, archaeologists have uncovered Baruch’s name on a seal impression in clay that would have once sealed a document. His work for Jeremiah could not have been easy because of the hard, truthful messages Jeremiah was known for. The hard message for Judah and Jerusalem seem be the reason for Baruch’s depression that we read about in Jeremiah 45. The words painstakingly
written down by Baruch had literally gone up in smoke, and he had nothing to show for his work. Chapter 45 stands out because we don’t normally get insight into the kinds of personal messages that God gave through His prophets. In this chapter, God gives Baruch a promise of
life on earth and through the great destructions he would see fulfilled on the nation.
