In 2 Samuel 22, David sings a psalm to God for us all – He is our rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield, Saviour. All of these qualities describe the fullness of God’s unwavering protection and faithfulness over our lives, especially when he says, “The LORD is my rock” (V. 2 ) . Bedrock, for instance, is the foundation of the earth, so to speak; nothing is more secure, stable and unmovable than it. In fact, bedrock is so hard at times that if a tool hits against it, the tool will just shatter. There are also times when evil might seem overwhelming, unstoppable even. Like David’s situation, it might feel as though evil is surrounding you from all sides. But unlike our unstable, changing world, God is stronger: “Then the earth shook and trembled, the foundations of heaven quaked and were shaken.”
(V. 8 ) God cannot be shaken. God does not tremble. And if God is with us, who can stand against us? In these days of grace, we have a choice, but soon, in the future, there will be no choice. Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD.
