Sometimes there are just no words. It is very easy to lose our perspective during times of great pain. It can be hard or impossible to think well in those states. Praying the Psalms can be a good strategy that can give words to our hearts, and when all else fails, the Scriptures reminds us that the Holy Spirit prays for us (SEE ROMANS 8:26). Before we get into times like that it is good for us to think about pain and suffering as a Christian. Evil does not want us to follow God. It does not want us to be righteous or faithful or healthy. Evil wants us to misunderstand God, to ‘curse Him and die’ like Job’s wife put it. Job is a great example to us because even in his pain, in his complaining and anguish, he loved God. He did not abandon what he knew to be true, even though he was extremely confused. Our reading today is in the middle of Satan’s ongoing attack on Job.
