As we read the history of 1 Chronicles, we will see that David respected order and structure. We know that David was both creative, many of the Psalms are attributed to him, and that he was committed to order. In 1 Chronicles 24, we are reminded that the sons of Aaron, Eleazar and
Ithamar, became the foundation of the priesthood after Aaron died. They had taken the place of Aaron’s other two sons, Nadab and Abihu who had offended their position and had been executed by God. David had learned a similar lesson about respecting God’s order when he attempted to move the Ark of God to Jerusalem. David did not follow God’s instructions and a man died as a result. As we pay attention to this, 1 Chronicles 24 helps us to see the order that David needed to learn.
