There is no easy way out of a rebellion. In David and Absalom’s case of familial and political rebellion, there was ultimately a lot of bloodshed. In today’s reading of 2 Samuel 20, we see the failed rebellion of Sheba who had set himself against the dynasty of David. Now that David had won his throne back, David’s commander Joab chased Sheba down. This ended predictably and tragically with a lot of bloodshed. When I read these things, it makes me
think about human nature. We are rebellious. Our hearts are infected with sin. Without a reconciliation with God, we stand in sinful rebellion against Him. Praise the LORD for the work of Jesus Christ, who paid the cost of our sin in full. Now we have full reconciliation with God as a clear choice. We can come to Him and ask forgiveness, and He will freely give it.

Holiness 2 Samuel 5-7
When I think about my youth, I can really sympathize with David’s moving of the Ark of the Covenant. I remember being so passionate and full of energy that I put everything I had into following God. The problem was that I followed God my way, how I thought it should be done. God has mercy with us...
