The defeat of Jericho makes absolutely no human sense! It should not have happened! By all human standards, Jericho should have defeated Israel. They were a large, fortified city being attacked by a semi-nomadic people group with limited resources. Remember that though the Hebrews had some recent impressive wins, like the taking of the lands of the Amorites, King Og
of Bashan, and their defeat of the Midianites, they were not a well-funded war machine. Jericho should have been able to withstand a lengthy siege and maybe even called on some allies to help defeat the Israelites. From a human point of view, the odds were not with Israel. But in the battle, it was the sound of the priests blowing rams horns and the men shouting that started the city’s downfall. The only thing that could save the people of Jericho was surrender, but only Rahab was willing. When she made her deal with the spies, she saved her life and the lives of her family members.

The Promised Land was divided up between the Israelite tribes in the 14th century BC, about 3,400 years ago. History tells us that this is true, and the Bible tells us that it was the result of their covenant with God. God willed it. This is interesting considering the political turmoil over Isra...
