The Seven Churches; Revelation 2-3
Season 12, Episode 13

In Judaism, they believe that the number of God is seven because when He made the cosmos He rested on the seventh day. This created the structure of a week, working for six days and resting on the seventh. They believe that the number of completion is ten, because we are created with ten fingers and ten toes. Numbers are important in Judaism and significant in their worship. So, it is interesting that in the book of Revelation God highlights seven churches. These are sometimes interpreted as representing seven types or conditions that the Church can find themselves in. Five of these churches are corrected in the text, and two are encouraged. The two churches that are not corrected are actively being persecuted – Smyrna and Philadelphia – who are said to have great love for God. The word Philadelphia means “love of
brother.” It was a Greek influenced church in the province of Lydia, in western Asia Minor.
