"Dedication. In so many ways this word defines what Moses and Aaron were commanded to do at the beginning of the nation of Israel. The nation itself was to be dedicated to God, its people were to be dedicated to following God, the priesthood had to be dedicated to serving God and the people. This dedication was laid out in the Law that God gave to Moses; there were very specific instructions that all pointed back to truths about God. In today’s reading, we see the instructions about the tribe of Levi. These Levites were to be set apart for the priesthood and were given the responsibility of the upkeep of the Tabernacle. We also read about the lamps and the lampstand in the Tabernacle. These were also dedicated for their purpose, and the lamps were oriented to cast their light in front of the lampstand.
