"It is both popular and unpopular to support Israel in the world today. But what is interesting is the spiritual realities surrounding the nation of Israel. This nation was named by God Himself. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel because he struggled with God and with men, and prevailed (GENESIS 32:27-28). This description of Jacob’s life is paralleled in Genesis 30. There was a posterity war between sisters. Rachel, the woman he loved and had worked so hard for, was barren and could not have any children. The
woman he did not love but was tricked into marrying instead of Rachel was Leah. She bore his children. This troubled Rachel deeply, so she gave her maidservant to Jacob and Bilhah conceived and had children. Then Rachel said, “With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and indeed I have prevailed.” (GENESIS 30:8) She called his name Naphtali, which sounds like Hebrew for wrestling.
