"The LORD is the Creator of all things, and as human beings we were created in His image, unique from all other creation. The image of God underpins the Law as it is the basis for how we relate to one another and work together. Therefore, when the law of God speaks about relationships and ways to use money, it does so with all of humanity as image-bearers in mind, not just the Israelite upper class. For instance, Deuteronomy
24:6 says, “No man shall take the lower or the upper millstone in pledge, for he takes one’s living in pledge.” In other words, don’t remove the way for a person to earn his pledge back because that is the same thing as making them your slave. The reason given is not to make the wealthy richer, but to rightly and fairly help the one in need. Serving our own desires is often a violation of serving God."
