"God was with Israel as they kept themselves aligned with Him, and God is even seen fighting for Israel. In our reading today we see the pagan king of Jerusalem, but this isn’t the first time we’ve come across Jerusalem in the Bible. In the book of Genesis it is referred to as the city of Salem. Genesis 14:18 says, ""Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High."" It is believed that Salem was the ancient name of Jerusalem partly because of what Psalm 76:2 says: ""In Salem also is His tabernacle, and His dwelling place in Zion.""
