"Sometimes we may feel that we cannot do what God has called us to do. We fall into what we think is the ‘next best thing’ or our ‘only option at the time’ and continue on as though we failed or, perhaps, we may feel that we had no choice but to fail. But God knows the future, past and present. He determines what His will is and how it will be established. The times that we’ve chosen the next best thing may actually be the exact timing God has confined and, thus, called us to in order to do His will. That is what happened to David, the young man anointed to become Israel’s
king, who ran from a demonically influenced and deeply jealous Saul. David thought it would be better for himself if he simply faded away into a small enemy city. But unbeknownst to David, he ended up retreating to a place where he could, and would, finish accomplishing what Israel had
not done for years: God’s will. David conquered Israel’s enemies and destroyed their wealth and establishment because Israel’s king could not–––Saul was working for the enemy.
