It is said that the Bible is the most influential book you will ever read. It is the oldest, complete book from history that we now have. Some of the quotes from the Bible are actually a part of our culture and conversations on a daily basis. For example, the phrase the writing is on the wall is from the book of Daniel and used in conversation today to show something that was expected or predicted. By the skin of your teeth is another example from the book of Job, it is used to describe how you’ve barely escaped trouble. Many sayings like these are from all different parts of the Bible. One of the most culturally relevant signs, the rainbow, is taken from the Bible. In our modern day, its original Biblical meaning has been removed. The rainbow is a sign specifically used to show peace between God and the earth, a promise God made to never send a global flood as it was in the days of Noah. In today’s reading, we learn the origin of the rainbow in its true context.
