Restrictions; Deuteronomy 19-23

In Deuteronomy 23, God puts restrictions on who could participate in Israel’s formal worship. He bans castrated males from the assembly, which meant a banning of the practice of castration in Israel. God also restricted access from any children of a forbidden union; this meant a marriage between an Israelite and anyone from the land of Canaan (SEE DEUT. 7 : 3 – 6 ). Moabites and Ammonites are also listed as banned from Israel’s formal assembly due to their
national treatment of Israel. There were and are consequences to our actions. Since the LORD was perfect and holy, meaning set apart or different from everything else, these rules reinforced that concept. Praise God that He did something about our sin! In His perfect timing, Jesus Christ came to earth to reconcile us to God. Sin has affected all our standings with the LORD,
disqualifying us. Jesus Christ is the only one who can deal with that. He is the way for us to be forgiven and included in the righteous assembly.
