God gave Jeremiah more than just words to speak, He also gave him specific assignments to carry out as visual prophecies for the people. The people were given multiple ways to understand the messages of God. Jeremiah 19 records that God told Jeremiah to purchase an earthen vessel from a potter to use in a prophetic demonstration. God’s judgment would come unless the people repented of their wickedness. They needed to stop breaking the covenant that they had with God and return to the ways and heart described by Moses. The Bible is full of demonstrations like Jeremiah’s clay jar because God does not judge in secret; He wants people to return to Him and so He speaks in many ways.
