There are ways in which God holds us responsible for things happening around us. We do not live on an island where we don’t affect others, or the other way around. Especially in a democracy, which strongly promotes privatization and individualism, we always affect others around us. This makes us responsible for how we think, behave and interact. And as Christians, our responsibility only intensifies through prayer. Thoughtful prayer changes intent, which changes behaviour and how we engage with each other. Therefore, our responsibility is magnified in prayer and action. You cannot separate the two. Prayer is a request for God’s strength and power in order to do the things that He commanded us. When the LORD sets up Israel in their new land, He puts in place lines of property and responsibility that different tribes were responsible for. At what point do we no longer take charge over those things and do nothing? In other words, when did God say: don’t be responsible?
