A city that’s rebuilt will never quite be the same as its original. Not only in its final form, but the process to get there is different as well. For Nehemiah and the Israelites, it was more than just structural, it was cultural and religious; it was for God. It meant rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and the Temple, it meant re-institutionalizing the Mosaic covenant and its laws, festivals, priesthood, and it meant revitalizing an understanding and
commitment to God together as a nation.
And they did! They began to do the things which the LORD had called them to do. One of the rules was simple: Do not intermarry with the other nations around you. God knew that the religions or the worship of the dead – spiritual experimentation – had long-lasting effects. When Jesus Christ came, God changed the way we are affected in the long haul of life. When Jesus Christ told us that all authority in heaven and earth have been given to Him, it was a fresh start to us.
