Avoiding Strife; Genesis 10-13

The LORD’s people should always try to avoid strife. This does not mean that we compromise and become disobedient to God, but that we are people who choose to find peace rather than enjoying the fight. Abram gives us an example here in Genesis 13. As the senior, and more wealthy member of the family, Abram could have chosen his desired territory and left Lot with whatever was left. Instead, Abram allowed Lot to choose. Abram was content to be in second place; perhaps he was so confident in God’s promise to him, that he didn’t feel the need to fight for his own name. Imagine if all of us were also confident in God’s plans. Imagine if we trusted God with whatever comes. Is God great enough to care for us and build His Kingdom? Though he lived long ago, in a world quite unlike our modern, western culture, Abram demonstrated how God desires us to live in peace with each other.
