"It is very difficult to know how to respond to the shifts and changes that happen in human governments and leadership. We see hints of the people of Israel and Judah struggling with leadership changes in our reading today. Within Judah and Israel, great shifts had taken place. In Israel, idolatry had been turned into the official religion of the nation. In Judah, true worship of God had remained the official religion, but Judah’s kings had not always been faithful to God. Asa, king of Judah, decided to follow God. A prophet of God confronted Asa with a message from God about His availability. The covenant relationship with God had always been open to Judah and her kings, “If you seek Him, He will be found by you; But if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” ( 2 CHRONICLES 15:2B). Asa responded to the prophet’s message by steering the nation back to God, and the blessing that followed was enough for people to take note.
