"Ezra and Nehemiah were both men and books of the Bible. In the Hebrew Bible the books of Ezra and Nehemiah were kept as one book. In Latin Christian Bibles, from the 13th century onwards, the book of Ezra was divided into two texts called the First and Second Ezra. In the mid-16th century, the title of Nehemiah was given to the book formerly called the Second Ezra. Nehemiah (a name meaning Yahweh Comforts) was not only a great man of prayer, but he served as cupbearer to the king of ancient Persia. This was an important and privileged position. It involved tasting the king's food before it was served, checking for acceptability and as poison control. Nehemiah also led the third return of exiles to Jerusalem in 444 B.C. The first return was under Zerubbabel in 538 BC, and the second return was in 458 BC under Ezra. Interestingly, Nehemiah didn't stay in Jerusalem but returned to his job.
