"When Luke gets to the resurrection of Jesus, it always makes me think of his life as a physician. Luke was clearly a man who was concerned with accuracy and truth. In the beginning of his gospel, Luke tells of his extensive research, and this shows us that he was interested in what really happened to Jesus. Today, there are not many educated people who don't believe that Jesus Christ was a real historic person. History establishes well that Jesus lived, taught, and was crucified on a cross. The real question is: What happened next? Did He raise from the dead, and if not, what else could explain the explosion of Christianity? About twenty years ago a survey was done among Church ministers asking that very question. The survey revealed that approximately 62% of those ministers did not believe that Christ rose from the dead. Stunning! Luke wrote to strengthen the faith of believers and challenge the unbelief of others. Luke's gospel also includes the only description in the Gospels of Jesus' ascension into heaven. Interesting choices from a man committed to the truth.
