Passover is one of the most important celebrations in the Jewish faith. It highlights the provision of God in desperate times of trouble. Passover celebrations began on the first month, Abib, also known as Nisan. For seven days they would eat unleavened bread. This means that they would not leave their bread out to ferment, they would bake it as soon as they had mixed up the dough. It was bread made in haste, not in leisure. This reminded them that they would not stay where they were for long, they would move when and where God called them. This reminds me of John 14 when Jesus tells His followers, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (JOHN 14:3). Similarly, our life on earth is quick, God will lead us into eternity. There is a lot that we can learn from Passover: it is also the feast that Jesus celebrated right before His arrest and crucifixion. It set the stage for the last supper which Christians remember with the taking of communion or the eucharist.
