"From the track record of human leadership, we can assume that it is hard to listen to the LORD when leading a country, or a large group of people. Even for those of us that don't lead countries, following God with our whole hearts can be difficult. In today's world, there are many different forms of governments. However, in ancient Israel kings led countries. These kings were evaluated by the authors of the Bible based on whether they obeyed the covenant of God or whether they ignored it or fought against it. Judah and Israel both struggled to obey God. The nation of Israel had turned their backs on God with their founding king, Jeroboam, and yet God still called prophets from within Israel. At this time in history, Elisha was now older and preparing to enter heaven. This is where we begin.
