Jehoshaphat was the son of Asa, and the fourth king of Judah, the nation south to Israel. The Bible says that Jehoshaphat not only did well in the sight of the LORD, but that he delighted in the way of God and restored the knowledge of God's Word back to the people. In our reading today of 2 Chronicles 17, we learn that Jehoshaphat sent some of his leaders as well as some Levites throughout Judah to teach the people from the Book of the Law of the LORD. Israel and Judah had a difficult relationship at this time, and Jehoshaphat was determined to restore it. The problem was that the kingdom to the north was evil with King Ahab and Queen Jezebel at the helm. Jehoshaphat was so blinded by his renewal effort that he was willing to befriend and ally Judah with the wicked and idolatrous nation of northern Israel.
