In Deuteronomy 29, we see God renewing His covenant with the Israelites who were alive at the end of the wilderness wandering period. The forty years in the wilderness had come to an end and the people were about to take over the Promised Land. God had chosen that generation, He had rescued them from Egypt, protected and provided for them in the wilderness and now they were about to receive a permanent home. In turn, they had to keep the stipulations of their
covenant with God, the Law. For our part, on this side of the cross of Christ, we realize that we cannot lose! We can witness the saving power of God in the Bible and in our lives and we can trust Him. We may not be fighting a physical battle like ancient Israel, but we are fighting a spiritual war. In the struggle, God will give us what we need to come out on top. Let’s ask Him to help us, to give us ears to hear and eyes to see, and to keep us close to Him.
