What does it mean to have prideto be proud? The English dictionary says that pride is feeling pleasure or satisfaction over something regarded as highly honorable or creditable to oneself. Another way of putting it would be some kind of accomplishment that builds your reputation; that not only makes you more esteemed in the eyes of those around you but in your own
eyes as well. The Bible actually speaks against pride. Proverbs 16:18 says, Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.‚ Also, in Proverbs 11:2, When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.‚ James explains it this way in his book: Humble
yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up‚ (JAMES 4:10). The Word of God reminds us of the blinding effect pride can have. The Bible tells us that we must remember that every success we have is because of God's grace. Nothing that we could ever do could save us from our own sin, only God can do that. We need to avoid becoming lost in pride for what we
have accomplished. only God is worthy to be praised.
