The prophet’s name is Isaiah. He is chosen by God to minister over a forty-year period, with the understanding that God speaks through him. His book is remarkable! It is like a mini-Bible. There are sixty-six chapters, as there are sixty-six books in the Bible. The first thirty-nine chapters are designed to mirror the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament; both judgement and punishment are there. The last twenty-seven chapters of Isaiah are like the
twenty-seven books of the New Testament – the work of the New Covenant.
Still, the first thirty-nine chapters have much to prophesy about God and the coming of Messiah. This is the first prophetic book we are reading. It is good to consider that the time period of this book is about 740 BC – before the birth of Jesus Christ.
