When I was Senior Producer of 100 Huntley Street, I met Oliver North, a United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel who had been involved in the Iran-Contra affair during the Ronald Regan administration. Oliver North came to be a guest on the 100 Huntley Street television program to share his Christian testimony. He used the Biblical example of Rahab as a way to explain his lying to the government in order to save lives. Even though she was a Canaanite woman and not bound by a covenant with God, Rahab is an interesting and thought-provoking way to describe a way to save lives by disobeying one of the Ten Commandments: You shall not lie. In fact, Rahab became a large part of Jesus Christ’s ministry when she was included in the genealogies of the LORD. Today we read about her story in Jericho and see how she was forced into a corner to lie in order to save the lives of the Israelite spies. A prostitute who lies does not seem unusual, but a prostitute who lies and then is included in the line of Jesus Christ is fascinating!
