There are many different forms of pain, but it is always uncomfortable, and let’s face it, we normally don’t like to be uncomfortable. We can truly learn important things through pain, though. Pain alerts us to something that is going wrong in our bodies or our hearts and minds. It is information, and it’s important to pay attention to it. In our present world, there are many ways of dealing with pain, and it strikes me that we live in a day and age where it is so easy to pop a painkiller. When pain is easy to correct it can be easy to ignore. A blessing and a curse. I think we should be careful to listen to our pain, especially emotional pain and pain that comes from correction. In our reading today, we will see that Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth caused them pain, but it was healthy pain because God was speaking to them through it.
Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, Paul corrected their understanding of what it means to serve God.
