Corinth was an interesting city and a rather dark place. Yet in this darkness, God spoke to Paul and told him “…I have many people in this city” (ACTS 1 8 : 1 0 ) . The LORD always seems to have good people in the midst of those who are evil. God displays the best of who He is and
what He has done for us in the midst of deep darkness. We understand this from prophets like Jonah. Nineveh was an evil place, yet it was God who compelled Jonah to prophesy, and so the city turned around and God spared it. Corinth was very much like ancient Nineveh––it was the
prostitute of cities in the Roman Empire. This was the place from which Paul the apostle would write two very specific letters to address the troubles in the Corinthian church. It is also the place in which Paul would spend one-and-a-half-years establishing the early Church.
