"There are whole countries, and whole movements that not only want to see the physical country of Israel wiped from the map but would be happy if Israelis and even Jews were gone too. When we look at history, there have always been nations that have hated Israel. There is also no doubt that God historically called the nation of Israel to fulfill His will on earth
(GENESIS 32). Jesus was born of Abraham’s descendants in the Promised Land. With the apostle Paul reminding us that we battle against the spiritual world (EPHESIANS 6:12), it is no wonder that there is great hate towards a country that God has great history with. In today’s reading we see the prophet Jonah responding poorly against some of that historic hate. Jonah did not want to go prophesy to Israel’s enemies in Nineveh. He did not want God to show these people mercy, but God forces the issue with him. This is a great story about God’s mercy to people who are in darkness and His desire for all to come to Him in repentance.
